Liberty hand Sabrina Ionescu's 24 points helped Sun lose their debut WNBA game.

The last unbeaten WNBA team is gone. The Connecticut Sun lost their first game of 2024 to the New York Liberty, 82–75, on Saturday.

Connecticut became the seventh team in league history to start 9–0. It's good for Stephanie White's team that six teams with nine wins reached the WNBA Finals.

The 2016 Minnesota Lynx started 13–0, the WNBA's best. The Liberty's sixth straight win and 10–2 start tied the franchise's best after 12 games.

Sabrina Ionescu led New York with 24 points, 12 in the first half. Jonquel Jones scored 22, eight rebounds, five assists, and four blocks.

Betnijah Laney-Hamilton scored 10 points, seven rebounds, six assists, and three steals, while Breanna Stewart had 13 points, seven rebounds, and five assists.

With her two 3-pointers, Ionescu became the third Liberty player to achieve 300 made and the fastest in WNBA history at 117 games.

We knew this was a big game, a statement game, they're unbeaten "Ionescu told ESPN's Alexa Phillippou. "And so we came in here, regardless of how ugly the game was looking, how sloppy it was at times, and we just stay poised and played our style of basketball."

With Ionescu's 10 points (2–2 on 3-pointers), the Liberty looked ready to blow out the Sun, leading 28–18 in the first quarter. In the second, Connecticut outscored New York by 10 to tie the score 39–39 at halftime. Seven quarter points gave DeWanna Bonner 12 points, matching Ionescu's halftime lead.
